How To Disable Caps Lock

Post by shanaya on June 25th 2010, 12:45 pm

I know I am not IGF, but he would want us to continue on. Smile

How can I disable the CAPS LOCK key?

QUESTION:
This may sound stupid, but I am always hitting the CAPS LOCK key when I don't mean to and end up "shouting" without knowing it until I look up at the screen and see that the last few words are in all caps. Is there a way to turn it off? Thanks! - Gray Geek

ANSWER:
You can disable CAPS LOCK or you can remap it to some other action that you find more useful (for example, you are probably hitting CAPS LOCK when you mean to hit SHIFT, so you could map it to function as another SHIFT key).

You could manually edit the registry, but the easier way to do it is to use a program like SharpKeys. You don't have to install it, you just run the executable. You can read more about it, including specific instructions on disabling CAPS LOCK, here:

You can download SharpKeys here:

Cool tip.

I've disabled the Windows keys on mine. If I accidentally hit the Windows key while playing games on the MAME emulator, it stuffs up the games and I have to start again.

You can also do the Caps Lock key with that, too. Cool
